Dr. Hamid Adel Bafi, Iraqi MP from the Kurdish Coalition condemned any type of compulsory relocation and pressure imposed on Ashraf residents.
“Arrangements were made for Ashraf residents in Diyala Province to be transferred to Camp Liberty near Baghdad Airport based on UN decisions and standards,” Bafi emphasized. “However, it appears that due to pressures that are imposed on the Iraqi government, the government has limited the area of Camp Liberty and worrisome efforts are taking place to place these refugees in that limited location like a prison, without transferring their belongings, properties and vehicles.”
In his interview with Baghdad TV, this Iraqi MP added, “No refugee must be migrated and relocated against their will, or transferred to any party. It is essential they be transferred based on their own content and under UN supervision, and they must have their belongings and personal property, along with being able to sell their immovable property without suffering any cruelty.”
