Iraq 4 All website, 1 Jan 2013 – Azhar al-Moini, head of foreign relations in the Muslim Woman Organization praised Iraqi MPs who called on United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to recognize Liberty as a refugee camp under the supervision of the UN High Commission for Refugees and guarantee the residents’ rights to freely sell their property in Camp Ashraf.
“This request has been raised when Liberty residents are facing the harshest of days due to vicious attacks by the Iraqi government and Iran,” Al-Moini in an exclusive interview.
“133 MPs who raised this request are a large number of dignitaries, forming a significant voice and the UN must not neglect this,” she added.
“The position of the UN in Iraq regarding PMOI members is very weak and has never been serious. Therefore, we join in voice with these MPs for the recognition of Camp Liberty as a refugee camp protected under the Fourth Geneva Convention,” al-Moini added.
“The current conditions are difficult for Liberty residents because they are faced with attacks and deliberate neglect, and they are also deprived of the most fundamental human rights and no real protection from any impartial organization…”, al-Moini continued.
