Baghdad TV, 2 Jan 2013 – Baghdad TV has obtained a video clip showing the tortured corpse of a prisoner by the name of Omar Ibrahim Mazal al-Karwi, who died in a Diyala Province prison a few days after his arrest.
In the video clip signs of severe torture on al-Karwi’s body can be seen, who lost his life during interrogation by Diyala Province police in the Jalulua region. Security forces arrested his brother who requested his corpse for an autopsy to find out the reason of his death. Police informed the family that the brother’s victim will be released on the condition of forgoing the autopsy on the corpse.

Diyala Province Governor Omar Aziz described the death of this prisoner as a vicious crime and serious violation of human rights in Iraq. In a telephone interview with Baghdad TV, he said this prisoner is the eighth person who died in the province’s anti-crime office.
“This crime took place yesterday in Diyala Province. This is a shame for humanity and a serious violation of human rights against a prisoner. This individual had gone to the anti-crime office himself… However, we were surprised with news of his death… This is the eighth person during the past two months who has died in the anti-crime office in Baquba. In my work and duty as head of the province high security committee, I demanded the establishment of a real investigating committee to look into this issue…I called the Tigris Operations Command on this impediment and ordered officers and those responsible for the investigation to be arrested, and they are now apprehended and held in the province police management office. We have filed a judicial complaint and the investigating judge ordered the arrest of the investigating committee in charge of this issue… Today there was a demonstration in the Jalula region protesting the murder of this individual,” he said.
