While Khamenei has remained silent on the context of the nuclear agreement and has only thanked the negotiating team in short comments, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech describing it as a major victory for the Rafsanjani-Rouhani faction.
Former Iranian president Hashemi Rafsanjani went even further and said, “The nuclear deal is more important than the [Iran-Iraq] war and retaking the border city of Khoramshahr!”
Rafsanjani lashed at out Khamenei and his faction saying, “Those who are concerned are looking to find glitches in the agreement, but a major feat has been accomplished. Many senior officials didn’t think this would happen because their viewpoints are of the past.”
Rafsanjani described Khomeini drinking from the famous ‘chalice of poison’ as another major feat that he accomplished.
“I ended the taboo during the war and the [UNSC 576] resolution,” he added.
