US State Department on Assad, transitional government

International criticism is rising regarding the massacre carried out by the Assad regime in the city of Duma near Damascus recently, leaving nearly 11 people killed, including women and children, and hundreds of others injured, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, August 18th.
The US State Department condemned this massacre with the harshest tone. US State Department spokesman John Kirby said such measures show how Bashar Assad has no value for human lives and what took place in Duma proves once again that Assad has lost his legitimacy. This makes it necessary for a political transitional period to bring about a government that responds to the Syrian people’s demands and wishes, he added.
