UNHCR: more than half a million refugees entered Europe this year

More than half a million migrants entered Europe this year, according to the United Nations High Commission on Refugees.
Most of the refugees entered the European Union through Greek waters and nearly 3,000 people have lost their lives in desperate attempts. 54% of the asylum seekers are from Syria.
After Greece Italy is faced with the highest number of migrants seeking to enter European soil. From early January 2015 to this day around 129,000 asylum seekers have entered Italy, the UNHCR reported.
The world is currently facing the largest refugee crisis after World War II.
The UN had prior to this declared according to estimates 850,000 migrants are expected to enter Europe up to 2017.
The UN says at least 400,000 other migrants will enter EU countries until the end of 2015 alone.
