Heavy clashes have been reported between Syrian opposition fighters and Assad troops in ‘Operation Lahib Dariya’ ongoing for the past few days north of the city of Dariya near Damascus.
Six Assad troops have been detained by opposition fighters. Moreover, the Jamiat region has been taken over by opposition fighters, and it is strategically important due to the fact that it overviews the al-Mazza military airport.
Opposition fighters said more than 70 Assad troops have been killed in these clashes, most of whom belong to Republican Guard and army special forces’ units. In retaliation Assad forces resort to dropping deadly barrel bombs on the city of Dariya.
