Senator Lieberman: We should do our best to support Iranian opposition

In an interview with Fox News TV, Senator Joseph Lieberman, chairman of US Senate Security Committee, stressed on necessity of sanctions against the Iranian regime and support of its opposition.

Responding a question about provision of nuclear fuel for the Iranian regime by the Russians, Senator Lieberman said: Considering the US Intelligence Community report and reports by the international community, the Iranian regime is still enriching Uranium in order to acquire nuclear bomb. We are not going to encourage them by any means. I think the transfer of Russian nuclear fuel to Iran will encourage them in their work. This is not the time to give the extremist regime of Iran the opportunity to make them closer to nuclear weapon; unfortunately this is what Russia is doing.

Referring to terrorist designation of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Senator Lieberman emphasized on the need of imposing sanctions against the Iranian regime and said: I am very happy that the Secretary of State has put the Qods Force of IRGC in the list of terrorist organizations. Appeasement with the Iranian regime will make easier for it to acquire nuclear weapon. We won’t allow that.

Pointing out to the Iranian regime’s threat to the world community, Senator Lieberman said: An Iran under such a regime is a threat. The Iranian people are not a threat; we have to do whatever we can to support that regime’s opposition in order to prevent this regime from acquiring nuclear weapon.
