
The White House announced that in a phone call with Vladimir Putin, US President Barack Obama described Russia’s military presence in Crimea as a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Reuters news agency reported that in a one hour discussion, Barack Obama has told Vladimir Putin to return his forces to Russian military bases in Crimea; enter in a direct dialogue with the Ukrainian government; and ensure the Russian natives’ rights by agreeing to station UN monitors in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced that in this discussion, Putin told Barack Obama that the current Ukrainian leaders have come to power through a coup d’état.
