Non-cooperation from Russia has stopped any effort in the United Nations to investigate into chemical attacks in Syria. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued a letter last week calling on all 15 UN Security Council member states to see into chemical attacks in Syria. The Security Council was scheduled to respond to this letter in five days. However the letter remained unanswered as the deadline came to an end on Tuesday. The reason behind this is obstruction and stonewalling by Russia in backing the crimes committed by the Assad regime in Syria.
Russian’s UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin actually defended Moscow’s inhumane stance. As the current head of the Security Council he claimed there technical reasons are preventing any response to Ban Ki-moon’s letter.
