Lebanese citizens from various cities across the country rushed to Beirut to hold one of the most widespread rallies protesting poor public services and Lebanon’s complex political situation, Al Arabiya.net website reported on the night of Saturday, August 29th.
In regards to this demonstration the Interior Minister had officially announced all necessary measures will be taken to protect the security of the demonstrators against any possible aggression.
The demonstrators were demanding accountability of suspects of political and economic corruption, and also those officials and authorities responsible for security forces opening fire on demonstrators last week. Demonstrators were also protesting the sectarian system ruling the government.
Lebanese civil activists behind the “You Stink” campaign said they have organized teams to protect the demonstrators and prevent predictable violent measures. These activists have also called for such protest rallies to be held in Beirut as the capital of Lebanon.
