Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani described the death verdict against Vice President Dr. Tareq al-Hashemi as ‘unfortunate’, Aswat al-Iraq radio reported.
“This creates an obstacle before national reconciliation,” he said.
“Despite the fact that I am in Germany for medical treatment, I have placed efforts to reach acceptable solutions for the current problems, including the issue of Vice President Dr. Tareq al-Hashemi. It is unfortunate that a ruling is issued against him in this particular timing while he is officially the country’s Vice President,” Talabani added.
“Not only is this issue not helpful, in fact it places an obstacle before all efforts aimed at national reconciliation,” the Iraqi president concluded.
