Iraqi security forces raided a base belonging to an Iran-backed Shiite militants as this group is suspected of abducting 18 Turkish workers, Al Arabiya.net reported on Saturday, September 5th citing security sources and officials.
Militants wearing official military uniforms abducted 18 Turk workers on Wednesday while they were working on a special project to build a stadium complex northeast of Baghdad.
The “Hezbollah Battalion”, whose base was targeted by Iraqi security forces, have shown no response to this attack. Shiite militant group has a strong presence in central and southern Iraq. A number of these groups are supported by Iran.
To this day there have been numerous reports regarding the role played by Iran-backed militant groups inside Iraq.
