Iraq: wave of protests reaches Kirkuk University

Following the Fallujah massacre last Friday, the Iraqi people’s widespread protests calling on Maliki to step down continued with sit-ins and demonstrations in al-Anbar and Ramadi, and spreading to Kirkuk University in the north.

Students staged sit-ins and demonstrations in the university campus on Sunday and Maliki’s Army forces attacked the protesters in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Baghdad TV reported the students issued a statement saying Maliki’s forces attacked the demonstrators with batons, confiscated many of the students’ mobile phones and broke them before their eyes.
