Following the increase of violence and explosions in different Iraqi provinces, particularly in Baghdad, a parliamentary delegation headed by a member of the Parliament’s Security Commission went to Iran-Iraq border to investigate the course of action to counter infiltration of Iran-affiliated terrorists into Iraq through border areas, reported Al-Baghdadiya TV on May 17.
Majid al-Zameli, Iraqi MP said in this regard: “Iraqi parliament’s office in Wassit province has received complaints and reports indicating unstable security at the border strip with our neighbor, Iran. On this basis, we came to this region. We met the commander of the Third Corps responsible for protection of this border region with Iran; he gave us detailed information on the situation and the activities of security forces.”
Al-Baghdadiya TV added: The border strip with Iran in Wassit province is 190 Kilometers long and there are a number of border posts in the region. The native residents said infiltration from these regions is not difficult and the terrains and hills and high grounds of the region make hiding simple.
Fadhil Abd al-Abbas, director of the Badrah District said: We came to the region along with a delegation from the Iraqi Parliament, a delegation from the army and the Border Guard Forces and discussed about the manners to stop these transgressions and closing the border gaps.
