
Iraq’s Integrity Commission declared over 2,000 former senior officials, including 13 former ministers, have been referred to corrupt on corruption charges, Al Jazeera TV reported on Friday, August 21st.
The former defense, electricity, economy (Abdulfattah al-Sudani), commerce and road & transportation (Loy al-Aras) ministers are included in this list, yet they have fled the country. The host states must hand them over to Iraq, the commission added.
The chair of the Integrity Commission said 13,500 files are under investigation and half of them have been finalized, adding his committee has been able to return nearly 36 billion Iraqi dinars (around $30 million) to the government’s treasury.
