In Iraq various splinter groups of the Popular Mobilization Forces are making their voices heard before the Parliament special session to approve the National Guard law. These groups, Shiites and backed by Iran, are now expressing their opposition to this plan and describing it as a US project, Al Arabiya TV reported on Tuesday, September 8th. The Badr Organization, being the largest group in the PMF and associated to Iran, rejected the National Guard law and issued a statement saying the formation of specific forces for each province will be the start of Iraq dividing into various sectors, adding the unity of this country is a red line. This organization warned the US Ambassador in Iraq not to interfere in Iraqi affairs.
In the meantime, groups linked to the al-Dawa Party, Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq and the Sadrists have approved such plans but are concerns are of Iran maintaining the PMF as an independent force in Iraq instead of having their ranks and files fall into the National Guard.
