German and Austrian FMs: World community should stand firm on its stance against Iran

The foreign Ministers of Germany and Austria stressed that the world community should stand firm to confront the Iranian regime’s nuclear program and do not let that regime acquire nuclear weapon.

The ministers said on Thursday in Vienna that the world community should not retreat from its stance regarding the Iranian regime’s nuclear file which has been a controversial issue over years.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said: The international community cannot and will not permit nuclear weapons technology to be developed in this region.

The Austrian Foreign Minister said: The world community is resolute against the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapon program.

US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte, who is seeking Chinese support for a new resolution on Iran that would contain binding sanctions.

US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte told reporters Thursday that UN-backed sanctions were necessary as Iran had refused to suspend uranium enrichment, in line with an existing UN resolution.
