
Free Syrian Army fighters shot down a regime helicopter above the Al-Hamdan Airport in Albu Kamal. The FSA has also gained control of a military base near the border town of Taleh Shahab, defeating Bashar Assad’s army soldiers.
Battles continue between FSA fighters and Assad loyalists in Der Al-Zur, Aleppo and Hazakeh. After FSA fighters gained control over the border town of Ras Al-Ain, Assad’s forces desperately deployed troops and tanks to the area and launched air assaults in an attempt to regain the lost town. Yet, FSA fighters were able to push the government forces back. The Syrian Human Rights Network announced that on Monday, at least 48 people were killed at the hands of Assad’s forces.
In fear of FSA advancements in Damascus, Assad’s forces on Monday bombarded areas of the capital. This is while fierce fighting continues between Assad’s military forces and FSA fighters. Meanwhile, in protest to Assad’s air raids and in support of FSA fighters, the Syrian people staged night protests across the country.
