By passing a resolution, the Belgian Senate unanimously condemned the Iranian regime for violation of human rights, especially for the execution of children and juveniles. The senate asked the Belgian government, which currently holds the periodical presidency of the UN Security Council, to put the issue of execution of juveniles and children in the agenda of Security Council.
The Belgian Senate pointed out in its resolution that the general situation of human rights has deteriorated in Iran since 2005, and the number of executions has been almost doubled just in 2007. The Iranian regime has executed more than any other country in the world the minor juveniles.
The Belgian senate resolution also asked the government:
“To condemn issuing execution sentences in Iran, especially for juveniles and children, and remind the Iranian regime that such verdicts against minors are blatant violation of international obligations, commitments and conventions that clearly prohibits the execution of children or individuals having been under 18 at the time of committing the crime. “
