Basra governor revealed plan for his assassination by Iranian consulate in Basra

Al-Arabiya TV reported: Muhammad al-Waeli, Basra Governor, revealed a conspiracy for his assassination by the mullahs’ regime and imputing it to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) and asked for closure of the Iranian regime’s consulate in that province.

In a press conference in Basra on Saturday extensively covered by Arabic media, Muhammad al-Waeli, said: The fact is that I have received many messages from the central government and the operation command and military command and the intelligence system which I have registered all. These messages indicate that some elements affiliated with the security system and the Iranian regime’s security organs intend to assassinate me and my brother Ismail al-Waeli.

He added: Yesterday the Iranian consulate informed one of the Fadhila Party leaders that there was a plan for assassination of Basra governor led by an Iranian agent and then throw the ball in the PMOI’s ground that they planned to assassinate Basra governor while the PMOI has no interest in my assassination and this organization is far away from Basra.

Answering a question whether the Iranian consulate was behind his assassination, the Basra governor said: Yes, this has been informed by on of the main elements of the consulate and they have said it to one of the Fadhilat Party’s leaders; also I think the Iraqi government has information about it and the Iraqi security and intelligence systems particularly in Baghdad and Basra have reported about that consulate’s function.

At the end, the Basra governor emphasized on the necessity of closure of the Iranian embassy in Basra; he said the Iraqi government is responsible for that.
