Al Jazeera TV: Iraqi armed tribes controlling large portions of Mosul, Maliki security commanders fleeing

Iraqi armed tribes issued a statement saying their forces in Mosul have taken large portions of this city after intense clashes against Maliki’s forces, Al Jazeera TV reported. The armed tribes command council said political and security officials have fled the city and armed tribes are calling on security forces to surrender.
Credible reports indicate armed tribes have taken over the Neinawa Operations Command base.
The armed tribes have also stationed in government institutions and banks to provide protection for these facilities.
Members of the 2nd Division fled to western Mosul with their personal vehicles after the eastern portion was taken over by the armed tribes.
Major Riyan al-Hiyali, the commander of SWAT militants, was killed in Mosul.


Al Tagheer TV reported government forces retreated from Mosul airport, leaving behind two helicopters and hundreds of artillery cannons. Government forces have also disappeared from Neinawa Province, leaving thousands of automobiles and armored military vehicles.
Ali Gheidan and Abud Ghanbar have fled the Neinawa Operations Command base, leaving behind small and heavy weaponry for the armed rebels.
Reports also indicate armed tribes have completely taken over then city’s airport.
