Sheikh Abdol-Malak al-Sa’di, senior Sunni clergyman in Iraq, met with Sheikh Ahmd al-Tayeb, the Imam of al-Adhhar in Cairo on Monday, June 23rd.
According to a report posted by Sheikh Abdol-Malak al-Sa’di’s office, in this meeting he discussed with Sheikh Ahmd al-Tayeb the events and developments in Iraq, and the attacks and cruelty and marginalization measures that led to uprisings in various Iraqi provinces. The two sides emphasized on setting aside sectarianism, and party and racial interests, going on to pray for unity, security, stability and prosperity for all Muslims, especially the Iraqi people.
Political analysts assessed the opposition of the highest Sunni clergymen with foreign intervention from any side as a warning to the Iranian regime.

Sheikh al-Azhar
Al-Azhar Sharif, like all Arabs and Muslims, is grieved over what is taking place in Iraq, and it calls on all walks of life in this country to understand this dire moment in Iraq’s history.
It calls on all of them to maintain Iraq under the framework of a full political process, and defend its sovereignty and unity, prevent any kind of foreign intervention in Iraq affairs, not eliminate anyone in launching a political process, and not neglect any request.
The rights of all people must be recognized in a united and powerful Iraq to protect its sovereignty and unity and support its security.
From al-Azhar’s viewpoint, marginalizing fundamental aspects of Iraq’s society during the past years has led to what is currently taking place in Iraq. This has weakened Iraq and will weaken it further in the future.
Al-Azhar Sharif calls on all Iraqis, especially the politicians to set aside party, racial and sectarian interests, and to immediately find a new agreed mechanism to protect Iraq’s sovereignty and land unity, and save Iraq from fundamentalism in all forms and save their country from foreign forces that are in ambush.
