
100 representatives of the German Bundestag from all parliamentary groups and also prominent German political dignitaries, including Professor Rita Süssmuth, former German Bundestag spokeswoman، and Otto Bernhardt, President of the German Solidarity Committee with a Free Iran, issued a statement calling to provide protection for and guarantee Liberty residents’ rights.
This statement reads, “MPs from various countries across the globe and human rights organizations such as Amnesty International have time and again called for humanitarian protection for Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty.

“We join in warnings issued by Amnesty International, and especially the demands and concerns of the European Council stated in this Council’s statement on 10 April 2014 in Strasburg emphasizing: Camp Liberty residents are protected persons under the 4th Geneva Convention, and according to UNHCR statements must enjoy protection based on international rights.
“The European Council Political and Democratic Affairs Committee has also called on Iraqi officials to immediately join UNHCR calls and carry out all imaginable measures to guarantee this population’s security.”
