Maryam Rajavi: Terminate appeasement with Iranian regime

Main Iranian opposition leader described removal of PMOI from US terrorist list as important step forward in fight against Tehran’s theocracy.

La Libre (Belgium), Brussels, 5 Oct 2012 – The removal of the name of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran from the US List of Foreign Terrorist Organizations is the new position described by Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi as a step forward in the struggle against the mullahs’ regime. After this step, it is the turn for the next measures of the resistance represented by Maryam Rajavi at the top of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran is its main member.
She was in the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday to call on European officials to ‘firmly end the appeasement policy vis-à-vis Iran’s ruling criminals and officially recognize the Iranian people’s resistance against the religious fascism and for freedom and democracy’.
The La Libre had a meeting with her.
“Following this development, we will be able to expand our activities in the political, social and diplomatic stage and the resistance network inside Iran. We will also be able to gather financial support,” she said.
“The Iranian people will have less fear to rise to overthrow this regime. We will place our efforts for the recognition of the Iranian resistance because this designation, as the main pillar of the appeasement policy vis-à-vis Iran, has been defeated and the balance of power in relation to Iran and the international community will alter,” Rajavi added.
“Iran will of course increase the pressure against the resistance because they fully understand this movement is the only alternative facing the velayat-e faqih. Therefore, members of our movement in Iraq will be in danger. Residents of Camp Liberty have been transferred and the international community is monitoring the events. A Spanish court is looking into the two massacres that took place in Ashraf. The Iraqi government will be more cautious because international courts, especially in Europe, will prosecute them if they commit more crimes,” she stressed.
“Since the Iranian regime uses its economic means to organize crackdown measures, produce nuclear weapons and export fundamentalism and terrorism in the Middle East and throughout the world, sanctions – especially an oil embargo – against this regime are necessary and must increase. Sanctions are necessary, but they are not enough. A firm policy must be taken in face to the mullahs. Western countries must end their political relations with Iran, because these ties have resulted in this regime obtaining more time. The clerical regime supports the repression in Syria and has gotten closer to obtaining nuclear weapons,” Rajavi emphasized.
“We seek the establishment of democracy and freedom for the Iranian people and I am confident this will be achieved. We seek a democratic republic based on separation of church and state and humane values, individual rights, equality between men and women, peace and a non-nuclear Iran,” she concluded.
