Press Release – Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission Rapporteur
We reject the trip of the Iranian regime’s Foreign Minister Salehi to Iraq, because his agenda is dictating to the Iraqi government and various political groups. Furthermore, mentioning the closure of the Ashraf case at the end of the year is considered a flagrant violation of Iraq.
This case depends to the will of Iraqis and also the United Nations considering the international aspect of this issue.
Thus, we warn against any action without coordination with UNAMI and UNHCR, and we consider the international community responsible to protect human rights principles and respecting the non-refoulement principle regarding Ashraf residents.
Furthermore, it is up to the Iraqi government to respect human rights principles in managing this case, and the reflection of this case on Iraqi refugees abroad.
