Three hundred Syrian figures, members of the Iran-Syria Nations Friendship Committee in Defense of Ashraf Residents and the Arab University Students Committee in Defense of Ashraf in Syria, signed a declaration supporting the European initiative and EU foreign policy chief’s efforts in this regard.
“It is clear that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki’s insistence on the Ashraf deadline is nothing but measures preparing the grounds for clashes and a killing spree,” they announced. “This effort by the Iraqi Prime Minister is a great challenge before international customs and laws which has raised the anger of the international community human rights organizations. The full responsibility of preventing such events is up to the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
UN observers must station in Ashraf, and Camp Ashraf be announced as a civilian zone under permanent UN supervision without any Iraqi armed forces.”
“We, the signatories of this declaration, strongly support the requests of 41 parliaments from 5 continents and the European solution for Ashraf,” the
declaration of the Arab University Students Committee in Syria added.
“We call on the UN High Commissioner for Refugees as the highest international figure on refugees to gain assurances regarding the protection and security of Ashraf residents.”
