Ranking Iraqiya slate member Dr. Zafer al-Ani said, “Based on international laws, the US is responsible for the protection of Ashraf against all aggressions carried out by the Iraqi government under orders issued by the Iranian regime.”
“It is up to the US government to assume the responsibility of Camp Ashraf’s protection,” he added. “When US forces transferred the responsibility of Camp Ashraf’s protection to the Iraqi government, it meant they literally surrendered the victim to the deathsman. Therefore, a killing spree similar to the one on April 8th was very much expected yet the US government refused to accept its responsibility and act accordingly.”
“Based on international laws, the US government is responsible for all aggressions taking place Ashraf,” al-Ani stressed. “And this responsibility continues to this day. Any decision taken by the UN or any other organization does not relieve the US of its international responsibilities because the US is the country that occupied Iraq and holds the responsibilities that result from such a measure, including the protection of civilians and refugees. The refusal to accept this responsibility by the US government regarding the Iranian refugees in Ashraf will not prevent international and legal accountability from this government. As a result, the US government is responsible regarding all crimes taking place against the rights of Iranian refugees in Ashraf. In other international examples, such as the former Yugoslavia, occupying forces are legally responsible to protect civilians. On the pressures inflicted by the Iranian regime on the Iraqi government, one must say that the current Iraqi government carries out orders issued by the Iranian regime. Therefore, this is not just the issue of the Iranian regime because the case is far beyond that, meaning the Iraqi government acts based on orders from the Iranian regime.”
