Iraq for All News, July 22, 2011- … Recently, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has established a special committee formed of his advisors and members of his party to assess the results and aftermath of the Spanish Court ruling to open an investigation into the Iraqi Government’s massacre of Ashraf residents. A source close to Maliki said that those close to him have advised him not to act naïve in regard to the Spanish Court ruling, since it might later on turn into a confrontation. He said that at first Maliki didn’t act serious about the Spanish Court initiative to open an investigation on the forces under his command massacring defenseless Iranian refugees at Camp Ashraf in Diyala on April 8th of this year, however, he has recently changed his position. He explained that Maliki acted naïve on this issue, and he thought that the Spanish Court’s judicial officials would not work on this issue and that with the opening of other cases, this case will be forgotten. Yet, opposite to Maliki’s expectations, the issue took an opposite course. This source said: “After being informed that this issue is real, Maliki was furious and outraged and he made several calls to jurists to prevent the results and aftermaths of this ruling, and he gave the orders for the establishment of a committee to assess and review the Spanish Court ruling”.
