Al-Babeliyah TV – June 27, 2010 – A number of Diyala Province sheikhs announced the support of 480,000 Diyala inhabitants for the legal status of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) and residents of Camp Ashraf. They also demanded lifting of the siege imposed on Camp Ashraf, calling on the UN to assume protection of its residents. This announcement took place in a press conference held in Baghdad today with nearly 400 sheikhs, lawyers, and political and social figures of the Diyala Province, along with dozens of media representatives attending. Tribal sheikhs and lawyers of Diyala stated about this declaration and represented documents regarding this support. Also, taking into consideration the increasing threats posed by the Iranian regime against the residents of Ashraf. Diyala Province residents called on the UN and the US government to protect Camp Ashraf, home to members of the Iranian opposition.
