Prominent Palestinian leader calls on US to live up to responsibilities on Camp Liberty residents’ protection

INTV, 3 Oct 2013 – His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Tayseer Rajab al-Tamimi, former Palestine Supreme Court Chief Judge, member of the Arabic-Islamic Committee in Defense of Ashraf Residents and Chairman of the Quds Center of Research and Human Rights, issued an official statement calling on the international community in its annual session in the United Nations General Assembly, and all noble and freedom loving people across the globe, to intervene to provide protection for Camp Liberty residents in Iraq, who have been targeted in numerous massacred and mass killings by Nouri Maliki’s government in Iraq under clear orders issued by the mullahs’ regime in Tehran.
“The confession made by Maliki’s national security advisor to carrying out this crime confirms that it is Maliki that is holding in custody the seven abducted hostages of the camp residents, including six women, especially after the reference made by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to reasons existing on the abducted hostages being in Iraq,” His Excellency said.
Resorting to excuses such as the residents’ lack of cooperation does not justify massacres against them and spilling the blood of defenseless citizens, protected under international conventions, covenants and laws, including the Geneva Conventions, he reiterated. The Sheikh held the US and UN jointly responsible for the camp residents’ safety and security, which they had pledged to.
Dr. al-Tamimi called on the UN Secretary-General to implement international conventions regarding refugees related to Camp Liberty residents and dispatch international peacekeeping forces for their protection against future massacres Maliki’s government is planning to carry out. He also called on the UN General Assembly and Secretary-General, the Arab League and its leaders and Arab scholars to rise to their historic duty and stand alongside the innocent Liberty residents and place pressure on the Iraqi government to accelerate the release of the seven hostages in order to end the hunger strike of hundreds of people launched on September 1 in Liberty and countries across the globe, and to confront the organized conspiracies and plots conducted against the residents to gain the consent of Iran’s rulers to destroy the Iranian people’s hope in freedom, stability, democracy and emancipation from the cruel and autocratic regime.
