UN Security Council should interfere to stop future attacks on Liberty

A detailed assessment of the attack on Camp Liberty strongly suggest that it was launched from a close distance. In fact it has been launched from a military compound under the control of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki. The attack included mortars and 107 mm missiles. Camp Liberty is now surrounded by Iraqi police and Army.
Since last year, Camp Liberty residents and their representatives and lawyers have repeatedly warned Martin Kobler – the UN Special Representative in Iraq and other authorities in the UN and the United States that piling about 3,200 individuals in a small space ½ square kilometer area is very impractical and dangerous. In the past 27 years, the PMOI camps in Iraq have been under repeated attacks – in 1994, 1999 and 2001, and just one person lost his life. However, Martin Kobler was unfortunately in such a big rush to move the residents of Camp Ashraf to Camp Liberty – to the demand of the Iranian regime and the Iraqi Prime Minister – that he ignored all precautions and warnings about the infrastructure of Camp Liberty. By providing fake photos and assembling false reports, he portrayed Camp Liberty as a camp with standard values.
The United Nations Security Council should interfere to stop future attacks on Liberty in the coming days and nights and force the Iraqi government to let the residents of Camp Liberty return to Camp Ashraf.
