Lord Russell-Johnston memorial held in Auvers-sur- Oise

A memorial ceremony for Lord Russell Johnston, member of House of Lords and the former Chair of EU Parliamentary Council, was held at the residence of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi in Auvers-sur- Oise, north of Paris, on August 4, 2008, few hours after his funeral ceremony in Paris.

His wife, Lady Joan Johnston, his sons, Graham, David and Andrew as well as Lord Slynn of Hadley) the former Judge of the European Court of Justice and the distinguished jurist from the U.K.), Baroness Harris, Lord King, Yves Bonnet(governor and former member of French National Council), and some more personalities attended the ceremony.

Mrs. Rajavi extended her condolences to Lord’s family and colleagues, and addressing the large family of the Iranian Resistance said, “The freedom-seeking movement of the Iranian people lost a friend, a sympathizer, and an advocate; and the people of Britain and Scotland lost a personality that represented their ever lasting values.

Lord Slynn, on behalf of the members of both Houses of UK, offered his condolences and reiterated that Lord Russell Johnston played a vital role in the political life of Britain and Scotland and stood by the Iranian Resistance with his strong commitment to the cause of the Iranian people Resistance.

Baroness Harris, member of House of Lords, reiterated that the contemporary history of the Liberal party and the people of Scotland will remember Lord Johnston for ever. She underscored that his support of the National Council of Resistance of Iran showed that he stood by the people who are fighting against an intolerable regime to achieve freedom.

Lord King, a colleague of him in the House of Lords, described Lord Johnston as a person who was sincere and put aside all political observations to pursue humanitarian principles. He said, “Undoubtedly, we and the people of Iran have lost a great friend.”
