Rome, Italy, 28 December 2010 – MPs from all political groups called for urgent humanitarian intervention in Iran. The Parliamentary Committee of Parliamentarians and Citizens for a Free Iran, consisting of dozens of MPs from all political spectrums and a group of Italian political figures, expressed its outrage regarding the execution that took place dawn today Tehran’s Evin prison. PMOI member Ali Saremi, 63, was executed after enduring vicious tortures and spending 24 years in all in the prisons of Shah and the mullahs for political reasons.
Akbar, Ali Saremi’s son, is one of the 3400 refugees residing in Camp Ashraf in Iraq. For two years now the residents of this camp have been targets of a siege, violent behavior by the Iraqi security forces affiliated to the Maliki government at the behest of Tehran.
Saremi’s execution was carried out solely for political reason. This execution is an indication of the Iranian regime’s inability to respond to a movement that nationwide is calling for the end of the religious sovereignty and the establishment of a democratic government.
