According to the Iraqi News Agency, in a solidarity statement with Ashraf residents, the Iraqi Committee in Defense of Ashraf consisting of political, parliamentary, tribal and academic personalities described the April 24 European Parliament resolution an international pattern for legal and humanitarian rapprochement with Ashraf, and called the Iraqi government to implement its substance.

The statement reads: “The European Parliament approved an important resolution with absolute majority about guarantee of Ashraf residents’ protection and banning any displacement of Ashraf residents and guarantee of all their rights based on the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Refugee Convention1951.

Approval of this resolution was a victory for justice and rule of law and an important human rights achievement in neutralizing conspiracy and plot for a human catastrophe. This resolution showed that the international community does not yield to pressures and intimidations of the religious fascism for violation of innocent people’s rights under the hollow pretexts, and introduced a symbol of imposing law and justice and humanitarianism acceptable by the international community.

We in the Iraqi Committee in Defense of Ashraf, unanimous with the European Parliament that represents 500 million of the population of the continent and unanimous with millions of honest Iraqis, ask the Iraqi government that by relying on this resolution, take feasible steps in implementing its contents and to stop the blockade imposed on Ashraf residents.
The Iraqi Committee in Defense of Ashraf needs cooperation of all freedom-loving and honest human beings to defend this humanitarian goal and asks all to help Ashraf residents in this humanitarian call”.
