The Kuwaiti daily Asseyassa wrote on January 2, 2009: By clear announcement of the US Embassy in Baghdad regarding that the United States will be committed to its responsibility in protection of the Iranian opposition in Camp Ashraf, this issue has been ultimately determined. The presence of the Iranian opposition in Iraq is a strategic priority which is far beyond the ability and views and directions of the Iraqi different political groups.
Asseyassa added: While the Iranian opposition has maintained its ranks under very hard and complicated situation in Iraq, Iraq’s national interest is not absolutely in giving security and political concessions in the face of Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq, bearing in mind that the Iranian opposition has strong ties with many Iraqi political and social forces.
It is quite clear that the Iranian regime and its agents attempt rigorously to end the presence of the Iranian opposition in Iraq, but such an opposition is not an easy morsel to swallow because its presence has deep roots and is a strategic affair beyond the will of this or that.
