Banga Welat Website, 11 Sept 2011 – The Association of Egyptian Jurists in Defense of Ashraf Residents issued a press statement condemning the installation of espionage towers near Ashraf. The statement is as follows:
On August 24th, coinciding with the beginning of Eid al-Fitr celebrations, the committee known as the “Committee to Close Camp Ashraf” installed two parasite transmitting towers to disrupt Camp Ashraf residents’ communications. These measures were carried out in full commitment to Iranian Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) agents.
The audio information gathering devices installed on these towers are among the devices prohibited around the world. Such devices cause blood cancer and chronic illnesses which have negative impacts on Ashraf and also Diyala residents.
MOIS’ spying measures through Iraqi forces in order to carry out their plans, and also a series of murders and massacres that the Iranian regime has conducted on its opposition, members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization stationed in Camp Ashraf, are considered among crimes against humanity.
We call on the Public Prosecutor and also the head of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council to intervene immediately to prevent these horrific acts. We also call on UNAMI, the UN, EU and US to provide urgent protection for the defenseless residents who have been under siege for two and half years. They should also take measures to stop human rights violations carried out against Camp Ashraf residents and station a permanent UNAMI team in Ashraf.”
