“The Arab Counsel in Defense of Liberty Residents issued a statement protesting UNAMI’s ironic reports on Camp Liberty conditions and called on the United Nations Secretary-General for an inspection of Liberty by international lawyers and delegations.
Excerpts of this statement are as follows:
“UNAMI’s published report on conditions in Liberty, dating 23 August 2012 entitled “Publishing the Truth”, actually reverses the truth and portrays an image of Camp Liberty as if it were ‘Heaven on Earth’.
We in the Arab Counsel in Defense of Liberty Residents call on the UN Secretary-General to permit the residents’ representatives and their lawyers visit the camp along with journalists to become informed of Liberty’s true conditions and status. Otherwise, international organizations and delegations active in human rights should be invited to go to Camp Liberty and report their observation.
While the UN should carry out its true leadership role in regards to Camp Liberty with the utmost impartiality and in a credible manner, the path taken by UNAMI chief Martin Kobler is distancing the UN from the main obligation it has been founded on. As a result, the hardships faced by Liberty residents have increased and truly the murderer and the judge have become one.
To shed light on the facts and the true conditions in Camp Liberty in an impartial, credible and accurate manner, there is a need for reports based on unbiased methods in carrying out one’s obligation in complete honesty and trusteeship. UNAMI’s unreal info sheet and facts under the pretext of “Publishing the Truth” is a good witness to this claim that such reports are prepared based on policies dictated by the Iraqi government and Iranian regime.”
