5 Dead in Iran Exile Camp in Iraq

Iraqi officials say assailants have fired rockets on a camp housing Iranian dissidents, killing at least five people and wounding about 40 others, Voice of America reported on Saturday.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack near Baghdad Saturday on the site known as Camp Liberty.

The camp houses members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq, or MEK.

MEK was formed in the 1960s to oppose the U.S.-backed Shah of Iran, but took up arms against the country’s new clerical rulers after the Islamic revolution of 1979.

The group had been on the terror lists of the U.S., Britain and the European Union, but has since been taken off that list.
