The Wall Street Journal wrote on Friday Hossein Hamedani was Iran’s senior military commander in Syria who played a critical role in this regime’s efforts to defend the Assad regime. He was killed near the northern city of Aleppo in Syria. On Thursday Syrian armed rebel groups by the name of the Fatah Army carried out an attack on regime forces north of Aleppo.
The WSJ added Hamedani directly supervised the organization of pro-Assad militia groups. Prior to being dispatched to Syria he was the commander of the IRGC unit that quashed and suppressed the 2009 rallies in Iran.
