US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman said at a speech in Georgetown University that Iran equipped with nuclear weapons will destabilize the region and lead to a nuclear arms race in the region, adding that is why US President Barack Obama has pledged Iran will not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. The goal of the United States in the nuclear talks is to block all paths before Iran on obtaining nuclear weapons.
At the same time, to reach a comprehensive agreement there is a massive rift on fundamental issues in the talks, and lifting the sanctions imposed on Iran will only be possible if Tehran proves its nuclear program is completely peaceful, she added.
In her speech Sherman also referred to the mistakes of the previous Iraqi government in neglecting general dissent across the country, adding an inclusive government in Iraq will lead to the weakening of ISIS.
