Tehran Protest Rally In Front Of Parliament

More than 120 people who had lost their money to a government agency gathered in front of Majlis (Parliament) on Tuesday, Jan 27th. Mehr Housing agency, part of government organized project, has been established to supposedly supplying housings to those people who need homes. But the catch is that the people have to pay a major portion of the money for building the houses in advance and are promised to receive a home within a certain time.
The protesters claimed that they have paid a large sum of money five years ago in hope of having a roof over their heads in a matter of months, but five years have gone and nothing has been provided for them.
The protesters also said that each has been charged 7 to 10 million tomans (about $4000 official rate) five years ago and right now there is no money and no home. They complained that they have been plundered and want the government to answer.
The protesters said they will remain there in front of the Parliament until they are provided with houses. They also attempted to expose these extortionist agencies.
Out of fear of the spread of the protest, the authorities mobilized a large number of security apparatus and cordoned the protesters and by using intimidation tactics, they forced the families and protesters to evacuate the area following a 4-hour scuffle.
