Iranian regime media reported that elementary and junior high schools in the southern city of Bandar-Abbas were closed on Monday, November 21 due to dust storm.
On Sunday a dust storm with winds blowing at 75 km/hour increased the density of dust particles in the air to 11 times of allowable and safe ratio. The storm, according to meteorologists would continue until Tuesday.
Earlier in the week, country’s capital Tehran was recorded to have the most polluted air since the beginning of this year. Tehran was considered one of the most polluted cities in the world.
Iran’s deputy director of the environment in Tehran province said that the air quality in Tehran with the index of 154 is in the red zone and unsafe for all citizens.
According to the IRGC affiliated, Fars news agency reporting on Sunday that the increase in the number of death in the capital is directly related to the air quality. The news agency cited the increase in burials in Tehran cemetery on polluted days forcing cemetery workers to work double shifts.
