In its political analysis, the “Jomhouri Eslami” daily affiliated to Khamenei admitted to increasing divisions and disputes between the Iranian regime’s judicial branch and Ahmadinejad. An excerpt of this analysis is as follows:
“This week, once again the case of the $3 bn embezzlement scandal was under media spotlight and the head and spokesman of the judicial branch said in separate remarks: ‘A number of people are attempting to impose pressure on the judicial branch to prevent follow-ups on this case.’ Amoli Larijani and Mohseni Eje’i did not name these individuals who are implementing the pressure, yet considering the fact that Mohseni Eje’i reported of one of Mashaii’s (Ahmadinejad’s chief of staff) inner circle being among those accused in this case, and this continuous struggle taking place between the government and the judicial branch that has reached its climax with revelations of the $3 bn embezzlement scandal, it appears as if there is no end to this issue.”
