Passersby and passengers of Tehran’s Shadman Metro system witnessed scenes of clashes between municipality agents and street vendors On Monday, February 15. This incident took place one week after clashes between these agents with carwash workers in Tehran’s Sa’adat Abad district that left a number of workers injured.
A number of eyewitnesses at the scene on Monday said state agents resorted to using batons and electric shockers. Municipality agents exited their vehicles and began capsizing all the street vendors’ belongings without any prior warnings. Municipality agents then fled the scene and even left their vehicles at the site.
“They jumped out of their vehicles in a flash. They didn’t provide any explanations and were just cursing. They attacked us with batons and electric shockers, and hit us as much as we could. If people weren’t there we would still be under attack right now,” said one of the street vendors.
“They broke my son’s teeth and nose,” he added.
