Aazam Piri, the wife of a Turk political prisoner who is on his 37th day of hunger strike, published an open letter. Her husband, Latif Hassani has been on hunger strike since 18 May in protest to the violation of political prisoners’ rights.
Today is Latif (Araz) Hassani’s 37th day of hunger strike. His condition has deteriorated and he fainted yesterday as a result of severe weakness and was transferred to the prison clinic. The prison officials are continuing to harass him. His wife said “Today my husband said in a telephone conversation that yesterday the prison warden told him to gather his stuff to be transferred to the Rajaishahr Prison. He waited until midnight by there was no transfer.
“This morning, after 37 days on hunger strike, they asked him to sign a request to the prison council requesting to be transferred to Rajaie Shahr Prison.
“In his remarks he explained to me: I denied their ridiculous request because in the past he had requested enough (exactly six times) while none had reached any results.”
Azam Piri went on to write: “Now my question is that doesn’t such behavior with those who have been on hunger strike for 37 days show that prison officials are suffering from chronic sadism? I am emphasizing once again that my husband (Araz) is suffering from heart illness and this increases the scope of my concerns, and I have only passed these 37 harsh and hellish days by relying on the high spirit of Araz and heartwarming by you, my dear friends.
“Now I am asking you, my dear love ones, to continue your support as you have done so far by being the voice of resistance of my husband, and do not let his voice be silenced.”
