Tehran said Monday it expects members of the International Atomic Energy Agency to discuss pinpoint details about nuclear research at a March meeting.
“In the upcoming (IAEA Board of Governors’) meeting, the topics related to Iran and the progress in its specialized talks with the IAEA will be discussed,” Iran’s deputy envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency Behnam Bolourian told Fars News.
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano met last week with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to discuss nuclear research activity in Vienna. Iran last year agreed to coordinate with IAEA inspectors on transparency issues related to nuclear research.
A February report from the IAEA said there were lingering questions about Iran’s research into a detonation device used in nuclear weapons.
Iran began implementing the IAEA agreement for more monitoring and verification of its nuclear activities in January. Under a separate interim deal with Western powers, Iran agreed to suspend enrichment of uranium to 20 percent purity, a level seen as a technology step toward a weapons program.
The next IAEA governor’s meeting is scheduled March 3 in Vienna.
