Iran excoriates Europe for jet fuel ban

Therebel.org, 6 July 2014 – An Iranian aviation official has excoriated some European countries for refusing to provide fuel to Iranian planes, saying the move is in “blatant violation” of international regulations.
In an interview with IRNA on Sunday, deputy head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization Mohammad Khoda Karami stated that some European states have refrained from supplying fuel to Iranian passenger planes in their airports since 2010.
He also noted that refueling limitations currently exist in nine airports in countries such as Germany, France and Britain.
“The refusal of some European airports to give fuel to Iranian airplanes has created many problems, including a rise in the flight time, aircraft impairment, an increase in fuel consumption, a drop in the deployment of airplanes in the fleet and unnecessary flights by Iranian airlines,” he further pointed out.
Khoda Karami said even despite the interim nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers, some European countries still refuse to supply fuel to Iranian passenger jets. “The problem is still in place and no change has been made in this regard.”

The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program with Washington and the European Union using this false claim to impose illegal unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China — plus Germany reached an interim deal in November 2013. Under the six-month deal, which took effect on January 20, sanctions against Iran were partially suspended while Iran scaled back its nuclear energy program.
