Continuous and unconventional inspections carried out in wards 7 and 8 of Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison have raised protests amongst political and security prisoners. These two wards in Evin Prison were searched yet again on the morning of August 27th and all of the prisoners’ belongings were inspected.
During the past few months wards 7 and 8 of Evin Prison have been searched time and again under various excuses. At times prisoners were held waiting in the prison courtyard under the scorching heat for hours.
These two wards in Evin contain a large number of political and security prisoners. These conditions are in violation of the principle of separating prisoners based on their offences. As a result political prisoners are held in inadequate conditions alongside ordinary prisoners.
