Political prisoner Dr. Latif Hassani of Iran’s Azerbaijan region was transferred from Tabriz to Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison on Thursday, June 26th, following a long hunger strike. This political prisoner has been on hunger strike since May 18th, protesting the violation of the prisoners’ rights. According to the family of this inmate, he has suffered severe weight loss during this hunger strike and is also suffering from a severe heart illness. Latif Hassani was convicted to 9 years back in February 2013 on charges of propaganda against the state. This prisoner is currently held in Evin’s quarantine section. (NCRI – July 1, 2014)
